Well, it finally happened. Despite the fact that my mom and I had planned on making mother-daughter Disney trips an annual occurrence back in 2010 when we took our inaugural trip, life has gotten in the way of our being able to do that...until now. Yesterday I booked a 3-day Bahamian cruise aboard the Disney Dream for my mom and I in July of 2014. We are excited to embark on this new adventure together...even if it means I have to do most [read: all] of the navigation of this trip because my mom usually depends on my dad to make sure he gets them where they need to go. He was none too thrilled when I sent him a copy of our cruise confirmation yesterday with a couple of lines saying, "Sorry you won't be joining us. We'll have an extra ice cream cone for you!!"
This is my third booking as an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner in about a week and a half, so that is very exciting. In addition to that, I have had the opportunity to talk to many of my friends and friends of friends to help them plan various portions of their trips to Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and aboard the Disney Cruise Line. I really can't believe how lucky I am to be able to take on a new career that I truly love. Booking vacations for potential clients or even just sharing my wealth of Disney knowledge allows me to live at least part of my days "in Disney" and I absolutely love it!
As many of you may know, my husband has been laid off from his job as a Sheet Metal Worker through Local 73, so this has been a very stressful time for us. Taking on another job was something I was a bit apprehensive about because I knew I would throw myself into this new, fun, exciting job and neglect my responsibilities at my full-time job. Last night, that stress finally took a toll on me as I was unable to get much rest before my alarm went off at 5:45 A.M. to get up and get ready for work. I have already received a call from my husband, and he seems excited and optimistic about his new job. I know I don't tell him enough, but I am so very proud of him for getting out there and finding a job so we didn't have to worry about surviving on unemployment alone.
Whether being an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner is a way to supplement my income or provide us with a savings account that allows us to take Disney vacations in the future, I am just so happy to be helping so many people plan their trips. Researching all things Disney, providing quotes, and giving families advice on where to go to meet up with Disney characters on their trip allows me to step away from the inevitable stress that being a high school English teacher brings, and it also allows me to metaphorically travel to the happiest place on earth and let go of all the stress this new financial situation for us will bring. I look forward to continuing my work as an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner and I even hope that this might some day be a more permanent, full-time venture that allows me to truly understand what enjoying your job means!
